  • COVID-19: New COVID-19 Restrictions

    We are delighted to confirm that our hotel has fully reopened:

    * Overnight leisure stays for all guests.

    * Our restaurant and bar will be open indoor and outdoor for dining and drinks.

    * All Spa & Fitness facilities available and open.

    You can book an overnight stay with confidence knowing that we offer free cancellations on all fully-flex rates up until 10:00am on the day of arrival.

  • Covid-19: Can I Book A Business Meeting Or Event?

    Meetings and events can take place for up to 30 delegates.

    The safety of our guests and teams is our number one priority and since reopening we have won various awards for our Covid secure operations that are in place across our property and within our business areas.

    Simply contact us with your requirements, and we'll take care of the arrangements.


    If you have a leisure booking that falls when we are closed, please contact the hotel on xxxxx to discuss transferring your reservation to an alternative date or we’ll be in touch very soon.

    We would love you to move your booking to a date in the future and as a thank you for doing this we will give you a £30 credit which can be used against food & drink, treatments, late check out, early check in or room upgrades. The £30 credit will be added to your reservation. Please note, one £30 credit will be given per booking, not per person.

    We’re also really proud to have been accredited COVID-19 Confident by the AA – another independent assessment of the safety measures we have in place.

  • COVID-19: Dining With Us

    We’re delighted to confirm that we have fully reopened for indoor and outdoor dining and drinks. All areas of our bar and restaurant are open.


    In line with Government guidance, room sharing is only allowed with people from the same household or part of a support bubble. Multi-household room sharing is not allowed.

  • COVID-19: Meetings, weddings and receptions

    Our meeting spaces are a COVID secure environment, meaning we can continue to allow up to 30 people in our setting with social distancing and our COVID Risk Assessment measures are enforced.

    With regards to weddings we are only able to offer intimate weddings in exceptional circumstances for up to 6 guests. Government guidance can be viewed here. 

  • COVID-19: Gift Voucher Extensions

    Following on from the Government announcement on 4th January 2021, our hotel will remain temporarily closed for all leisure stays.

    Therefore, we have further extended all gift vouchers as follows:

    • All vouchers due to expire between 01/11/2020 and 28/02/2021 have been extended to the 31/08/2021
    • All vouchers due to expire between 01/03/2021 and 17/05/2021 have been extended to the 17/11/2021

  • COVID-19: Government Changes to VAT in Hospitality

    We can confirm that the rate at which you booked your guestroom still stands and we would like to explain the reason for this.

    The reduction in VAT is a great initiative which has been introduced to help hospitality businesses during these challenging times as per the guidance released from the Government. The full announcement can be seen here and below is a summary of the key messages:

    “The government made an announcement on 8 July 2020 allowing VAT registered businesses to apply a temporary 5% reduced rate of VAT to certain supplies relating to:

    • Hospitality
    • Hotel and holiday accommodation
    • Admissions to certain attractions

    These changes are being brought in as an urgent response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to support businesses severely affected by forced closures and social distancing measures.”

    The temporary reduced rate will apply to supplies that are made between 15 July 2020 and 31st March 2021.

    Since this announcement, the government has further extended the temporary 5% reduced rate of VAT until 30 September 2021.

    After sadly being closed for the majority of the last year and the increased costs we need to absorb in line with government guidance, our business has been severely affected by the pandemic. This initiative is a huge support to our business and the hospitality sector as a whole and it also enables us to bring more of our valued team members back off furlough.

    We hope you understand why the rate at which you booked your guestroom still stands. We hugely value your custom and support and we are really looking forward to welcoming you.   • What are check in and check out times?

    You’re welcome to check in from 3pm – if you arrive in the city earlier and need us to store some luggage we’re happy to oblige. Check out time is 11am.

  • Is the hotel dog-friendly?

    We have 4 dog-friendly rooms and provide a cosy bed for your four legged friend to sleep on. Whilst we do not permit dogs into our restaurant or other public areas they are very welcome in our sun lounge area as well as our outdoor dining area. 

    Dogs are not permitted in our cottage rooms.

  • Is there a car park?

    Yes – unusually for such a central city location – we are blessed with an onsite car park. Access is via a barrier and you will need an exit code from reception. Charges are £10 per night. Spaces are limited and cannot be reserved but we have several local car parks just a few minutes’ walk away should the rare occasion arise that we are full. Use the postcode YO1 6DU.

    Why not book direct with us? Not only do we guarantee you the best rate, you will also get free parking for the length of your stay. Free parking is only available to guests booking direct and is subject to availability.


  • What family facilities are there?

    We have family rooms that can take up to 2 adults and 3 children. The Sir Joseph Terry cottages can accommodate up to 6 people and are ideal for larger family groups. We offer high chairs, children’s menus and cots/ extra beds too.

  • Do you cater for special diets?

    Yes – we have a team of talented in house chefs and if you let us know – ideally in advance for more unusual requests – we’ll do all we can to ensure you can enjoy a great meal with us. Vegetarian and dishes made with non-gluten containing ingredients appear on our main menu as the norm.
